How to get overlays for OBS

In this guide I will show you how to find resources that you could use to customize your streams and broadcast on your favorite platform with the best conditions, completely free.

What are overlays?

When talking about overlays, we refer to the elements used to complement your broadcasted content: a frame for your camera, start and end screens for your livestream. It is important to know the difference between widgets and overlays. Currently all streaming tools include widgets to improve the broadcasting experience. In this post we are going to focus on the overlays.

If you are interested in getting any of these widgets, you can check our post “How to get the most out of Rechaaarge” to learn about our streaming tools and how to get them.

What does the guide include?

  • Get overlays for free
  • Add overlays to OBS

Get overlays for free

If you want to get graphic resources for free, we recommend you use the popular website nerdordie.com. This website contains hundreds of streaming resources made by professionals. If you want a specific design you can purchase it from the site, but for now we’ll focus on the free section.

To access the free section directly, go directly to this URL: https://nerdordie.com/product-tag/free-resource/

It will appear as a tab as we can see in the following image.

By clicking on each of the elements, you can download the overlay packs for your stream for free.

Add overlays to OBS

Once you have downloaded your favorite designs, open your streaming software (in this case OBS) and click on “+”. Choose the option “Image” as shown below.

After choosing the overlay and implementing it in OBS, you’re ready to stream!
