In this guide, I will show you the strategic steps to get sponsors and allies to help finance your eSports team.
What does the guide include?
- eSports definition
eSports refer to a group of players, either playing as a team or independently, that compete in virtual electronic games. Recent years have shown that it is a sector on the rise with a ton of potential. Due to the influence these teams now have, brands are keen to take advantage of eSports by promoting their products and content in exchange for financing.
Clear examples of eSport success are: FazeClan (US), Team Queso (Spain), Team Heretics (Spain), CrazyCrew (Spain) among others.
When we say ‘team’, we are referring to its structure having an established growth base and a business plan: if you want to stand out in this sector, professionalism is a must!
Once you have chosen the team strategy, you must choose your communication strategy; social networks, communication in press etc… this is something that cannot be done without a good team of professional players interested in working on a stable project with a future.
Normally at this point you will be thinking about how you are going to finance the structure of the team.
Finance is for many teams and players one of the main reasons for instability as well as an important step towards achieving their goals.
How will you finance your team? There are a couple ways to do it:
- Private investors or brands
- Donations from viewers who support your team
As for the group of private investors, you will need to present your team project and business idea in order to get sponsorship and financial support. This type of sponsorship from large investors will typically happen when your team starts to grow and get the benefits.
Once you and your team are becoming well known it is very likely you will have your pick of who you want to work with, be that investors or brands.
For donations, there are two types:
- Paid donations
- Cost-free donations
For paid donations, I recommend using one of the most popular platforms on the market: Streamlabs. The Streamlabs platform allows users to receive donations and is free of commissions.
As for cost-free donations; that field belongs to Rechaaarge. It’s a free tool for streamers and creators (where e-sports teams are also included)! Each time one of your viewers tries a promoted app you receive a donation. The amount varies by country and user, but when dealing with teams that compete internationally, the audience is global.
